Well, the world woke up to the news that the Duchess of Cambridge has finally gone into labor with the future heir to the throne. Poor Kate–imagine having the world waiting for you to give birth, and having a vast media contingent camping outside the hospital where you will deliver your firstborn not just for a day or two, but for weeks. Labor’s hard enough without that much additional pressure.
A year from now we’ll all be looking back and celebrating the 1st birthday of this particular future monarch. We’ll also likely be looking back and remembering that today was the hottest day of the year–after a cold and miserable spring, the sun has come out, the rain has stopped falling, and while it’s nothing like as hot as the States, it’s crazy hot for here. It’s 89F today, and people are dropping like flies.
760 deaths have been attributed partially to the heat in the last few weeks, and I have been on a hunt for fans for our bedrooms. They’ve been sold out everywhere I’ve looked, but this morning I had a bit of luck and found what may be the last two room fans in the whole of the county. Which likely means the temperatures will immediately plummet.
There’s always a bright side, though: ice cream. Lots and lots of ice cream.
